Macerates (Infused Oils)

Macerates are carrier oils into which therapeutic herbs have been infused. Also known as herbal oils, infused oils or phytols, they are created by infusing the flowering tops of the herb in a carrier oil, imparting to the base oil the quality of the herb. Some plants, such as Marigold (Calendula) or St. John's Wort (pictured right growing wild in Provence) when macerated in oil, provide a wonderful product with many therapeutic uses. Herbal macerates have a particular benefit in skincare where they can be used on their own or as part of a blend.
