About Cinnamon Essential Oils

About Cinnamon Essential Oils

Cinnamaldehyde, the main chemical component, is unusual amongst aldehydes in that it is aggressive against viruses and bacteria. It is found in Cinnamon Bark essential oil at around 45-60%. In comparison, Cinnamon Leaf oil contains predominantly Eugenol, which is also found in Clove oil. Please note that Cinnamon Bark essential oil is very powerful and, if used on the skin, this should be in very small concentrations.

If you are just getting started using Cinnamon we suggest Cinnamon Bark Organic.

Special note for professionals:
True cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) should not be confused with Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia), which has a much higher proportion of Cinnamaldehyde over 75% and is less commonly used in aromatherapy.
