Cinnamon Essential Oils

CinnamonCinnamon is an evergreen shrub which yields a warm, spicy and aromatic oil from the bark and the leaves.

  • Supportive for the digestive system.
  • Energising and invigorating – blend with citrus essential oils, Rosemary or other spicy oils such as Ginger, Basil etc to counter tiredness and overwork.
  • Antibacteril and antiviral – blend with eucalyptus oils, myrtle, tea tree, thyme or rosemary for respiratory support.

Cinnamaldehyde, the main chemical component, is unusual amongst aldehydes in that it is aggressive against viruses and bacteria. It is found in Cinnamon Bark essential oil at around 45-60%. In comparison, Cinnamon Leaf oil contains predominantly Eugenol, which is also found in Clove oil.

True cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) should not be confused with Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia), which has a much higher proportion of Cinnamaldehyde over 75% and is less commonly used in aromatherapy.
