Carrier Oils

Carrier oils, such as Sunflower oil (plant pictured right), are a very important part of an aromatherapy treatment. A great massage is one of the nicest, most relaxing experiences you can have. When you add the therapeutic and aromatic effects of essential oils the experience is even enhanced, and in this case the essential oils are added in a low dilution to vegetable oils; and these have come to be known as carrier oils.

This name suggests that they have a neutral role becuase they ‘carry’ the essential oils. But this is far from the case because many have significant (and in some cases extraordinary) benefit in their own right as skin care products.
