Brazilian Frankincense (Breu Branco) Essential Oil

Protium heptaphyllum
£23.99

Benefits & How To Use

Brazilian Frankincense (Breu Branco) Protium heptaphyllum (1204 – 5ml)

Brazlilan Frankincense is a majestic Amazonian tree reaching up to 20 metres high which secretes a beautifully aromatic white resin from its bark. It is from this resin that the essential oil is obtained through slow hydro-distillation. Known locally as Breu Branco, it belongs to the fragrant Burseraceae family, as do Frankincense and Palo Santo. Dubbed the ‘Frankincense of Amazonia’, it has an aroma which is reminiscent of Frankincense, yet fresher with a slight citrus fragrance. Its chemical composition is also very similar, as are some of its properties. But while the Frankincense we know from Somalia has a dry dusty aroma, its Brazilian cousin is fresh and clean and vital. Given the widely differing habitat this is perfectly understandable.

This is a pure therapeutic-quality wild-crafted aromatherapy essential oil from Brazil, and is obtained from the resin from the tree.

FAQs

What is Brazilian Frankincense (Breu Branco) essential oil?
Brazilian Frankincense (Breu Branco) is the essential oil of Protium heptaphyllum, a tree in the Burseraceae family. It comes from the resin, and it is known locally in Brazil as Breu Branco. The aroma is resinous, with a fresher, slightly citrus character.
Where does it come from and how is it made?
It comes from Brazil and is wild-crafted. The oil is obtained from the tree's resin through slow hydro-distillation. That method helps preserve its naturally aromatic resin profile.
What does it smell like compared with true frankincense?
It is often described as the 'Frankincense of Amazonia'. The scent is reminiscent of frankincense, but fresher and cleaner, with a slight citrus note rather than the drier, dustier feel of Somali frankincense.
How long does it keep once I have opened it?
Unopened, it has a shelf life of 36 months. Once opened, it is best used within 12 months. Keeping it tightly closed and stored well will help maintain its aroma.

I find Oshadhi oils to be simply exquisite. Their fragrances are so rich and full bodied. It is easy to immediately discern the difference their insistence on extraction by slow distillation makes. The larger molecules make the oils like beautifully aged, smooth fine wines! Last week I ordered 1ml o ...
