Tasmanian Pepper and a set of three peppers

We’ve always been happy to offer a wide variety of essential oils. It’s so interesting how the theme of a particular plant finds diverse expression in different species and sub-species, in essential oils from different areas, in different chemotypes, and in oils from different parts of the same plant. The variety of nature is spectacular! But having a wide range has a downside too because it can make it hard for you to choose so we are offering some sets of three oils so that you can try out the different types.

A Set of Three Peppers

Pepper oils are best known for their stimulating effect, and they work well in a blend for every day aches and pains and overworked muscles. They are invigorating for the senses and can be inhaled when you are in need of a boost. The dry, spicy aroma adds depth to aromatic blends for perfumery.

Black Pepper 5ml: Well known and loved in aromatherapy for its warming properties and spicy aroma.
Brazilian Pepper 5ml: All the properties of a true pepper, but sweet, calming and refreshing.
Tasmanian Pepper 1ml: Soothing and slightly sedating. Blends beautifully with floral oils.

A note on Tasmanian pepper

Tasmanian Pepper (Tasmannia lanceolata) is one of the higher priced pepper oils and you may ask why. Commercially it has to do with limited production and variability in yield, added to the fact that the oil is much in demand for skincare and supplement use, as well as for use in food flavouring.

Tasmanian Pepper shares many properties with other peppers but is considered to be unique due to its high content of polygodial. This sesquiterpene has strong anti-inflammatory effects and makes up as much as 15% of Tasmanian Pepper oil. It is particularly known for its calming effect on sensitive skin, reducing redness and irritation. These effects have also been associated with allergy reduction.

In aromatherapy, Tasmanian Pepper can be harnessed for its soothing, sedating effects. It blends well with floral oils such as Lavender or Jasmine for relaxation and in preparation for a restful night. It also works well with oils such as Eucalyptus and Rosemary for respiratory support where it helps maintain clear airways and easy breathing.

Like other pepper oils, Tasmanian Pepper has a warming effect which can be used to support muscles and joints. It is ideal as part of a massage blend to use after exercise or to relieve everyday aches and pains. It can also be used on the neck and temples to reduce tension and bring comfort. The antimicrobial effects of Tasmanian Pepper can be put to good use in a blend for blemished or difficult skin. In perfumery Tasmanian Pepper is an alternative to spicy oils such as Black Pepper or Pink Pepper.
